Mrs. Gorham was born in Texarkana, Arkansas to Eldon & Nel Janzen. Her dad was the band director in New Boston, TX at the time, and retired from teaching in 1995 after 45 years on the podium. He spent the last 25 years of his career at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
While growing up, Mrs. Gorham studied piano for 4 years, but her first love was sports. She spent many hours each summer on the softball fields of Irving, TX, and later participated in basketball, volleyball, and tennis at Fayetteville High School. She started band on the French horn and loved it from the beginning.
She attended the University of Arkansas as a music education major and participated in every ensemble on campus that needed a horn player. After creating many fond memories through band, and meeting her future husband, she graduated in 1981 with a BSE With Honors, in music education.
Mrs. Gorham began her professional teaching career in McAlester, OK at Puterbaugh Middle School. She and Mr. Gorham got married in June of 1982 and spent two more years in McAlester before moving to Van Buren, AR where both were employed in the band department. Their son, Brant was born in 1988 in Ft. Smith, AR.
In 1989, the Gorhams both accepted jobs at Owasso High School. Mrs. Gorham conducted the high school and symphonic band and worked with the marching band for fifteen years before giving up her high school duties to move to the 7th grade center. She now teaches beginning brass, and 7th grade band, as well as assisting with the high school band as needed.
Mrs. Gorham believes that music education is a special calling and feels blessed to have a job that she loves. She feels that her experience with band students and their parents has enriched her life immensely.
